Remember when a Kleenex commercial crew was surprised by Greenpeace activists in New York City this spring? Well, it’s happened again.
This time, Kimberly-Clark showed up outside Wrigley Field – home of the Chicago Cubs. As usual, they invited the public to sit on a couch and "let it out" to a fake shrink. What they didn’t consider was the irony of advertising Kleenex at a Cubs game while destroying habitat for cubs (and bears) in the Boreal Forest.
You could say they walked right into the pitch.
Infiltrating the shoot, a half dozen activists sat on the couch and "let out" their thoughts about Kimberly-Clark’s responsibility for the destruction of ancient forests. Then, a group of enthusiastic fans introduced a "Kleercut – Cut It Out" banner into the mix, temporarily shutting down filming of the commercial.
Next, a family of Boreal bears (momma, poppa and cubby bear) showed up to "let out" their feelings about Kleenex. Kimberly-Clark security stopped them from approaching on the couch at which point they were chased away by killer Kleercut boxes!
Luckily, Greenpeace reps were on site to help the Boreal bears. With signs and banners, they thwarted the heartless Kleercut boxes and sang a rousing rendition of "Take Me Out of the Kleercut" (to the tune of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame").
Forest advocates (and the bear family) stuck around for hours, making sure thousands of fans streaming into the Cubs game heard the truth about Kleenex. Some folks, after learning that Kimberly-Clark destroys endangered forests, returned their Kleenex samples in disgust!
All of this made the Kleenex crew shut down filming, change their setup and close off the shoot to the public. At the end of the day, it was Boreal cubs and bears 1, Kleenex 0.
